Instrumental Music Room
The Rocklin High School Instrumental Music Room (B-2) is one of the finest high school music facilities in our state. We must treat the room with respect, and out fellow musicians and their instruments with respect. The way you enter the room should demonstrate your respect for our high standards (loud talking and running are unacceptable). Food and drink, except water in a sealed bottle, will not be allowed in the instrumental music room at any time. You must remove any hats upon entering the music room. The instrumental music room will be opened at 7am most days so you can put your instrument in your locker. If the director is in the room, students are invited to come in before and after school and during lunch to practice, study, or just be with other students. The directory will be in the room at the end of the day so that students may pick up their instruments for practice at home.

Rehearsal Procedure
Rehearsal time is a time for making our group musical performance better through careful study and meticulous practice. Rehearsal requires the concentrated effort of every member of the group. Rehearsal procedure is as follows:
- Upon entering the room, check the board for the day's assignment
- Collect everything you need for rehearsal (music, instrument, equipment, etc.)
- Go to your assigned seat
- Place your music in rehearsal order
Rehearsals start 5 minutes after the last bell. Be ready to warm up together. When the director or any authorized person takes the podium, give him/her your complete attention. This means total silence when the person is talking, and quickness to respond to instruction. Ask the director questions about anything in the music which is unclear, but remember that anyone who puts a mind to it can solve almost any problem with eyes and ears.

Music Library
The Rocklin High School Music Library consists of sheet music, books and recordings. The combined investment in all these materials is huge. So that many students may enjoy the use of these materials, it is necessary to follow procedures related to their use:
- All originals of sheet music, black numbered folders and numbered technique books are issued to you for the year. They are due back at the end of the year. If you don't turn them in, you will be assessed for their replacement cost.
- Books and recordings are available for check-out. Just make sure you sign them out on the check-out sheet provided. When you are done using them, bring them back and be sure to cross out your name on teh check-out sheet. If you check something out and don't use it, please bring it back so that someone else can use it. All books and recordings are due back by the end of the year, or you must pay to replace them.
- Sight reading folders, chamber music folders and guitar method books are for in-class use only. If you want music from any of these sources, ask the director and he will have copies made for you. When you have finished using these resources, replace parts in their original folders and put folders back in box.

School Instruments
The larger, more expensive, unique instruments, which are necessary to complete a well-balanced instrumentation in band and orchestra, are available for check-out by students. School instruments are made available for your use under the following conditions:
- You fill out a check-out sheet
- You take responsibility for the care, safety and maintenance of the instrument
- You maintain satisfactory progress on that instrument
Under no circumstances should you attempt to repair a school instrument on your own. Always bring it to me first to assess the problem and determine a course of action.

Private Lessons
Because Rocklin High School instrumental groups are devoted to the study and performance of literature for a large group, you must gain the individual techniques which are essential to this experience. As you become more proficient, your enjoyment of the music increases. Each musician will find that as the quality of individual playin improves, a greater body of literature is available for study and experience, thus enhancing the quality of the band and orchestra as well. A student who attains a high level of musical achievement in high school, often continues to play a musical instrument in his college and adult life. You are encouraged to study with a private teacher who is a specialist on your instrument. Such a teacher is able to devote an entire lesson toward solving the problems you may encounter. The results of this kind of attention simply cannot be attained in a group situation. Any student interested in a private teacher recommendation should see the director.
