Steel Drum Band
The RHS Steel Drum Band uses handcrafted instruments in the tradition of the Islands of Trinidad and Tobago to create music reflecting the sounds of the world. Influential styles like Carribean calypso, Brazilian samba, Jamaican reggae, and Cuban salsa combine with American jazz and rock in a musical soup. In addition to the steel drums, or "pans", the drum set, conga drums, timbales and variety of latin percussion instruments are used. Auditions for placement in the Steel Drum Band are in May. There is no prescribed audition piece as for other audition groups, but students are encouraged to sign up in March to indicate their interest.
